The projects are designed to increase vertical clearances at 61 locations on CSX rail lines in the region to accommodate intermodal trains carrying double-stacked containers.

The National Gateway’s first phase, which spans an existing rail corridor between North Baltimore, Ohio and Chambersburg, is underway.

So far work has been completed at five of the locations, and work is being carried out at 15 other locations.

The completed projects include bridges in Hyndman and Chartiers Creek, which were modified for double-stack usage.
