Bombardier Transportation has received a $44m order from the Electric Urban Train System of Guadalajara (Siteur) to deliver 12 light rail vehicles (LRVs) of the TEG-15 model.

The two-car trainsets will be operated on Line 1 of the Guadalajara light rail system operated by Siteur.

"Bombardier has developed many new features on the vehicles in order to improve the experience for all the people who use the Guadalajara public transit system every day."

Scheduled to be delivered from next year, the new trains are expected to increase peak capacity by 50% on Line 1, compatible with the existing fleet and allow services to carry about 900 passengers.

Bombardier Transportation Americas division president Raymond Bachant said: "As an innovation driver, Bombardier has developed many new features on the vehicles in order to improve the experience for all the people who use the Guadalajara public transit system every day.

"As part of the innovations, the trains will have an on-board video recording system (OVRS), new fire and smoke detection system, light emitting diode (LED) technology and will be accessible to wheelchairs."

The 29.56m-long steel-bodied TEG-15 sets, designed for a maximum of 48 seated and more than 300 standing passengers, are designed to operate at a maximum speed of 80km/h.

Designed, engineered and built at Bombardier’s plant in Ciudad Sahagún in Mexico, the new vehicles will be mechanically, electrically and pneumatically compatible with TEG-90 vehicles from Siteur.

The TEG-15 model will be based on the existing fleet of TE-12 vehicles that were previously supplied by Bombardier to the Electric Transport Services of Mexico City (STEDF) in 2014.
