Francilien EMU

Rail technology provider Bombardier Transportation has secured a €162m order from SNCF for 22 additional Francilien commuter EMUs.

The order is co-financed by SNCF and STIF, the transportation authority for Ile-de-France, and it forms a part of a initial contract with SNCF in 2006 for up to 372 trains for the region.

"This ultra-modern, spacious, highly automated train is designed to solve capacity and punctuality challenges in densely populated areas."

Bombardier Transportation Western Europe, Middle East and Africa president Laurent Troger said: "Due to the current pressure on the SNCF Transilien network, our clients STIF and SNCF demand high levels of reliability and performance to ensure smooth transportation for approximately three million commuters daily.

"This ultra-modern, spacious, highly automated train is designed to solve capacity and punctuality challenges in densely populated areas. It also has won the hearts of passengers, who appreciate its comfort and onboard contemporary design."

Upon delivery in 2016, Bombardier’s Francilien commuter trains will be operated on SNCF Transilien lines H and K, in order to complete the fleet modernisation.
