The project is the phase II of ADIF’s planned total investment in the Mediterranean Corridor. The first contract was awarded in July 2013 to a Bombardier-Dimetronic consortium for the Castellbisbal-Tarragona section.

As per the new contract, the company will install the equipment on the Almussafes-Valencia-Castellón de la Plana section on the east coast of Spain.

The company will also deliver new EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking technology to upgrade eight and install seven new systems, as well as provide advanced EBI Track train detection, communications and hot box detector systems.

The equipment will be delivered over the next 15 months.

In order to improve the connectivity between the Spanish harbours and European freight routes, the Mediterranean Corridor upgrade will take place over three years.

The adoption of a dual gauge solution will also increase access for international traffic.

Bombardier’s Interflo 200 signalling equipment is used for busy mainline networks, where headways are reduced and higher safety levels are required.

The Interflo 200 system is currently in operation across Europe, in addition to Brazil, Russia and Thailand.
