Bombardier Transportation has delivered 141 new Movia Metro cars for the final phase of Singapore’s underground Downtown Line (DTL), which will form part of the region’s mass rapid transit (MRT) network.
The company has fulfilled the full 276-car contract order in three stages.

The first 24 cars for Phase 1 were delivered in 2013, while a further 111 cars for use in Phase 2 were delivered in 2015.
Bombardier Transportation South-East Asia head Jayaram Naidu said: “We greatly appreciate the tremendous effort from our team, our joint venture partner Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles, and especially the trust and support from our long term strategic partner the Land Transport Authority of Singapore, in delivering this latest batch of metro cars on time and on quality.”
The delivery of the final metro cars is expected to increase the total potential ridership to roughly 500,000 along the entire 42km DTL route.
Bombardier’s 141 new metro cars are set to operate on the 21km-long third phase of the DTL line, which comprises 16 stations and connects the region’s north-west and eastern areas to Singapore’s Central Business District and Marina Bay.

By GlobalDataEngineering support services were offered via Bombardier’s Germany-based site as part of the DTL vehicle contract, while project management and the Train Control & Management System (TCMS) were provided locally from Singapore.
The company’s UK team designed the trains’ bogie and the final assembly of the vehicles was carried out in China.
Bombardier has also delivered 32 Innovia 100 automated people-mover vehicles for the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit System (BPLRT) in Singapore as part of a separate development.
