Australian statutory government authority Transport for New South Wales has said that a major refurbishment of Blacktown Station will begin shortly.

Works will include improvements to lighting, painting of doorways, walls and walkways, deep cleaning and minor repair works like replacement of tiles.

The station’s four outdated hydraulic lifts will be replaced with modern air-conditioned electric lifts that are wheelchair-friendly and include braille signage with an investment of $3.1m.

The authority said that alternative lift access between the bus interchange and footbridge will be available during refurbishment and advised its customers to follow signs around the station.

New South Wales transport minister Gladys Berejiklian said: "The Blacktown refresh project forms part of a wider initiative to improve customer facilities across Sydney Trains’ network

"This work will result in customers enjoying much improved facilities at the station."

"The work includes replacing fluorescent lighting with more efficient LED lighting, painting, repair work and refreshing the toilet facilities.

The project is part of a wider initiative to improve customer facilities across Sydney Trains’ network. It follows renovations completed at the station since 2011 including a new multi-storey car park and increased CCTV coverage.

Blacktown is a major transport interchange station on the Main West railway line. It is served by the T1 Western Line and the T5 Cumberland Line of the Sydney Trains network apart from the NSW TrainLink intercity Blue Mountains Line and regional XPT service to and from Dubbo.
