New Jersey-based AXION International, which uses recycled plastic and plastic composite technologies to produce building products, has secured an order from the US South Central region’s major domestic transit line for its ECOTRAX composite rail ties.
AXION’s ECOTRAX composite rail ties, which are made from recycled plastic, were ordered by the customer for annual spot-replacement of rotten wooden ties.
AXION claims that the ties are durable, can handle the South Central climate, and come at a reasonable cost.
The $925,000 purchase order is first of the two projects, with the second phase purchase order to be finalised in early January 2014.
AXION International ECOTRAX sales manager Cory Burdick said: "Rail operators are actively seeking alternatives to address the increasingly expensive maintenance and replacement issues associated with wooden ties and ECOTRAX provides them with a solution on a global scale.
"Over the last two years, we have expanded our business worldwide and continue to produce a very consistent quality product which is being recognised by both existing and new customers."
