American design software and services company Autodesk has secured a building information modelling (BIM) services contract from Qatar Rail, in an effort to employ advanced technologies for railway infrastructure projects.
The contract is in line with the Qatar National Vision as the country aims to sustain its development by 2030.
Autodesk will offer BIM implementation, consultancy and advisory services to Qatar Rail for the construction of a modern integrated railway network.
Qatar Rail will oversee the design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the entire rail network and systems within Qatar.
Autodesk will also implement a technology platform within Qatar Rail to train, support and collaborate with the company’s assigned staff for the railway project, while outlining specific BIM standards and processes for the railway project.
Autodesk’s consulting team will also assist Qatar Rail on the implementation of BIM technologies and practices in order to reduce time and costs of railway projects by minimising rework and miscommunication, by providing more actionable insight into projects, and helping accelerate decision-making earlier into the project lifecycle.
