The Victoria Government in Australia has awarded a deal to Active Railway Signalling (ARS) to perform upgrade works on 14 country rail crossings across the North Eastern and Central Victoria lines.
The A$8.2m ($6m) upgrade seeks to make the North Eastern and Central Victoria lines safer for motorists, passengers and local communities.
The revamp is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s A$50m ($38m) safer country crossings programme. It will see installation of boom gates and flashing lights at ten road crossings on the Seymour corridor and North East line.
Managed by VicTrack, the upgrades also include installation of automatic gates at four pedestrian crossings, with two in Broadford and two in Donnybrook.
Victorian Government Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said: “We’re upgrading these road and pedestrian crossings to improve safety for motorists, passengers and local communities in central Victoria.
“Work on each of the 14 crossings will start immediately and be finished by mid-next year, we’re getting it done.”

The programme aims to upgrade 52 road and 25 pedestrian crossings around Victoria.
Separately, Australia’s Andrews Labor Government has started construction work to remove two dangerous and congested level crossings and rebuild Bayswater train station.
