Italian contractor Astaldi Group has secured a €171m contract to upgrade a section of the N-7 Warsaw Wschodnia Osobowa-Dorohusk railway line as part of a joint venture (JV) arrangement.

The company owns 65% stake in the JV contract, which involves a number of works to be carried out in collaboration with Zhol Zhondeushi (25%), PBDiM (5%) and CLF (5%).

The railway upgrade will see the demolition, reconstruction and extension of the nearly 68km-long N-7 railway line along with Lublin station.

It will also involve the construction of level crossings, new service and access roads with associated minor works.

The project is due to be financed via European investment and the allocation of state budget funds, and is expected to be completed in roughly two years.

The works have been commissioned by the state-owned rail firm Polskie Linie Kolejowe.

The latest contract is said to be in line with Astaldi’s commercial initiative as outlined in the 2017-2021 strategy, which aims to consolidate the company's presence in Central Europe. It is also expected to bolster the group’s presence in Poland.

Astaldi is also currently working on a project to extend Line 2 of the Warsaw underground in Poland.
