Alstom has secured a €100m contract from public transport operator Casa Transports to deliver 50 Citadis trams for operation in the Moroccan city of Casablanca.
The trams will be operated on the 22km Line 2, construction of which was started earlier this year. The line is expected to open in late 2018.

The company has already delivered the initial fleet of 74 Citadis trams, along with power supply and signalling equipment, for the 31km Line 1, which opened in 2012.
Since its opening, ridership of the tramway Line 1 has increased by more than 30%, necessitating a second line.
Alstom Transport Morocco president Thi-Mai Tran said:
"With a total fleet of 124 Citadis, more people in Casablanca will be able to commute comfortably in a mode of transport that is environmentally friendly, reliable, and that fits well into the city."

By GlobalDataDesign of the new vehicles will be similar to that of the existing fleet. The 32m-long trams operate in pairs, with a capacity of 606 passengers per pair.
The low floor trams will have 12 side doors, suitable for all passengers, including those with reduced mobility.
Alstom will manufacture the Citadis trams at its La Rochelle facility in France.
The project is being financed by France (65%) and Morocco (35%).
Last week, Alstom secured a €91m contract to supply 19 Citadis X05 tramsets to the French city of Nice. To be delivered in 2017, the trains will be deployed on the city’s East-West tramway line 2.
