French state rail operator SNCF, on behalf of the Pays de la Loire Region, has placed an order with Alstom to supply five Regiolis regional trains from the Coradia Polyvalent range for about €25m.
SNCF has also ordered 24 Citadis Dualis tram-trains, some of which have been in service on the Nantes-Clisson line since 15 June 2011.

This order corresponds to an option exercised under the agreement, signed with the SNCF on October 2009, financed by the French regions.
The Pays de Loire Region now operates 54 Alstom regional trains and has already ordered 15 Coradia Polyvalent trains, with an average seating capacity of 216, ten hybrid dual-voltage train sets and five electric dual-voltage train sets.
Coradia Polyvalent is entirely designed, manufactured and assembled in Alstom factories in France. So far 171 Coradia Polyvalent train sets have been ordered. Alstom said it intends to apply the framework contract to 1,000 train sets in the future for €7bn, in order to improve the industrial activity of French production sites.
The company delivered the first Regiolis train, a family of Alstom’s range of regional Coradia trains, to the French regions and the SNCF on 14 June 2011.

Alstom said the highly modular Coradia Polyvalent range is a single-level regional train with various technical configurations and passenger amenities.
It can travel at up to 160 km/h in both its electric and hybrid versions, operating at two different voltages of 25kV and 1,500V.
The Coradia Polyvalent range is also available in a cross-border version for operations on the German and Swiss rail networks, at a voltage of 15kV. They consume about 15% less energy, with motor bogies positioned at the ends of the carriages to limit vibration and noise levels.
