Alstom has secured a €160m contract to deliver 30 Coradia Continental electrical trains to Hessische Landesbahn (HLB) in Germany.
The order includes 13 three-car units with a capacity of 350 passengers, and 17 four-car trainsets that can carry 460 passengers.

Capable of operating at a speed of 160km/h, the trains will be assembled at Alstom’s Salzgitter plant in Germany.
The trains will have four or five multi-purpose areas to provide space for wheelchairs, bicycles and prams.
The traction equipment is located on the roof within the train to provide a spacious interior with wide gangways.
Alstom Germany and Austria vice-president Didier Pfleger said: "For the first time, the Coradia Continental will meet the new standards for interoperability of locomotives and passenger cars."

According to Alstom, these would be the first Coradia Continental units to meet the locomotives and passenger rolling stock technical specification for interoperability.
Scheduled to enter commercial service in December 2018¸the new trains will be operated on the Südhessen-Untermain network that connects the cities of Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt, Frankfurt and Aschaffenburg in the west-central part of Germany.
More than 2,200 Coradia trains have already been sold and 1,900 are currently circulating in Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Canada.
In October, HLB won a contract from Rhine-Main Transport Authority (RMV) to operate the Südhessen-Untermain network for 15 years starting from December 2018, when HLB will take over from DB Regio as the operator.
