French train manufacturer Alstom has delivered the first Régiolis train to Poitou-Charentes, a French administrative region.

In 2011, regions such as Poitou-Charentes and Auvergne placed a €125m ($164m) order with Alstom to supply ten and 12 regional trains, respectively.

The new 72m-long dual mode train will be able to house 217 seated passengers in four carriages.

Features of the trains include seats fitted with individual reading lights and electric sockets, in addition to space reserved for bicycles and luggage.

The low-floor train offers better accessibility, while the large windows, wide corridors and passageways between carriages offer a comfortable journey for passengers.

Belonging to Alstom’s Coradia range of units, Régiolis trains are suitable for various types of operation, including suburban, regional and intercity.

The ten trains ordered by Poitou-Charentes will serve passengers on regional journeys between Poitiers, Saintes, La Rochelle and Bordeaux.

The new train is expected to start service in January 2015.

The €125m order is part of a contract signed in 2009 with France’s national railway company and financed by the French regions, bringing the total number of Régiolis trains ordered to 142 units.

Alstom also recently delivered a new Régiolis regional train to the Pays de la Loire region, France.

It was part of an order for 20 Régiolis trains awarded by Pays de la Loire region and included ten dual-mode motors trains and ten diesel units.
