AECOM Technology has won a $17m extension contract from Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) in the US to complete the second phase of its light rail expansion programme.

Under the contract extension, AECOM will provide a variety of project control, system integration and staff support services to DART to complete the 20-mile expansion of Orange and Blue light rail lines.

AECOM chairman and chief executive officer John M Dionisio said: "We look forward to delivering innovative solutions that enhance Dallas’ mass transit systems."

AECOM has been working on this project since 2002 and has won contracts worth $82m so far.

The company provided control and support services for the DART light rail expansion enabling the Dallas Area Rapid Transit to open the 28-mile, $1.8bn Green Line December 2010.
