To make the station look more pleasant, the canopies above the access ramps will be painted and lights will be installed.

Plan also includes resurfacing of both platforms to improve stepping distances between the trains and platforms.

The station is managed by Northern with whom Network Rail is working on the project.

The company stated that the work will be done in stages to avoid disruption to train services and minimise disturbance to the passengers.

Northern stakeholder manager Pete Myers said: “Alongside Northern’s investment in brand new trains, the refurbished station will help to enhance Keighley’s status as an attractive place to live and work in, and to visit.”

Earlier this week, Network Rail Scotland announced plans to make an additional investment of £4.5m to improve performance in the north-east and Highlands rail networks.

Earlier this month, Network Rail also revealed plans to offer free Wi-Fi service at all of its stations starting next year.
