UK infrastructure operator Network Rail has completed its planned track upgrade works in Abergele in North Wales.
The track upgrade was part of the £50m North Wales railway upgrade project and aimed at providing a more reliable service for passengers.

Network Rail Wales and Borders senior project manager Kevin Roberts said: “We’re pleased to have completed the upgrade work at Abergele on schedule, improving the reliability and resilience of the railway for passengers in North Wales.
“We worked closely with our partners Arriva Trains Wales throughout the project, doing all we can to keep disruption and noise to a minimum. I would like to thank residents and passengers for their patience while we completed this essential work.”
The works included laying 600m of new track and the upgrade of two sets of points, which are movable sections of track allowing trains to move from one line to another.
Preparatory works started in March and operations kicked off in April in Abergele. Track works were also completed at Holywell, Talacre, Rockcliffe Hall and Llandudno.

By GlobalDataUnder the £50m project, a modern signalling system has been installed between Shotton and Colwyn Bay, and more than 6km of new track laid in Mostyn and track upgrade works took place in Rhyl and Flint.
The Abergele and Pensarn station underwent improvements, while the Tyn y Morfa level crossing has been upgraded to a manually controlled barrier with CCTV.
Network Rail said that works will continue in the coming months along the North Wales coast to remove old signalling equipment, including redundant cables, as part of the North Wales railway upgrade project.
