Knorr-Bremse has secured an order to supply Stadler Deutschland with braking, entrance and climate control (HVAC) systems, which will be used for 606 new metro cars destined for Berlin Metro operator Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).
Apart from these systems, Knorr-Bremse will supply replacement parts and provide digital maintenance services for 32 years.

The company claimed that this is its first order for entrance and HVAC systems in the metro sector in collaboration with Stadler.
The deliveries will commence in the fourth quarter of this year while the final shipments will continue until the end of 2026.
If the additional option is exercised by Stadler, the company will deliver its technologies for about 894 additional cars between the first quarter of 2026 and the beginning of 2031.
Knorr-Bremse executive board member Dr Jürgen Wilder said: “In terms of both its size and its relevance, this order represents a huge success for our company and is the largest and longest-term order Knorr-Bremse has received from Stadler to date.

The railcars will feature the newest version of IFE’s Type RLS sliding plug door system.
Knorr-Bremse rail vehicle systems management board member Dr Peter Radina said: “Together with Merak, our group subsidiary for integrated climate control solutions, our technologies offer the fleet operator maximum reliability, comfort and energy efficiency throughout the entire product lifecycle.”
The metro cars will be loaded with modern obstacle detection and LED lighting on the door leaves for enabling quick, safe and barrier-free boarding and alighting.
The passenger compartments will be installed with new heating and ventilation systems, whereas the driver’s cabs will be equipped with energy-efficient HVAC systems.
More than 100,000 units of the mechatronic brake control system, previously known as the EP2002, have been deployed worldwide.
