According to sources, 156 coaches are planned to be purchased.

Out of them, 120 broad gauge coaches are required to transform the units on Line 1 (Red Line), Line 2 (Yellow Line), Line 3 (Blue Line) and Line 4 (Blue Line).

As the services on Pink Line and Magenta Line are operated on standard-gauge, the coaches will not be used on these networks.

In August, the DMRC requested funds from the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) to buy additional rolling stock. The funding would also be used to improve the frequency of trains.

NCRPB is yet to consider the request.

DMRC introduced QR code at two stations between the Heritage Line and Mandla House to facilitate Metro fares payment, however, very few passengers have used them due to low promotion and lack of commuters travelling between the stations.

The DMRC operates 214 stations, the first corridor between Shahdara and Tis Hazari was opened on 25 December 2002.
