Indian Railways has inducted three 09-3X Dynamic Tamping Express machines for improved mechanised track maintenance.

The high output integrated tampering machines can be used to measure pre- and post-track geometry and adjust the track to required geometry.

They can also tamp three sleepers simultaneously and stabilise and measure post tamping track parameters to ensure optimum quality of work. As a result, they eliminate the need for a separate stabilisation machine, reducing operating costs and the time required for them to remain on the tracks.

“The addition of these machines into its maintenance fleet is expected to enhance safety and economy in maintenance of tracks across the country.”

Seven additional machines are expected to be inducted within the next six months and will be deployed across heavy density routes.

The new 09-3X Dynamic Tamping Express machines inducted into the railway were made in India with imported components, as part of the Make In India initiative introduced in September 2014.

Indian Railways plans to acquire 42 more such machines into its maintenance fleet over the next three years.

The addition of these machines into its maintenance fleet is expected to enhance safety and economy in maintenance of tracks across the country.

The introduction of these vehicles will also minimise manual measurement of track quality following maintenance works.

Last month, Indian Railways introduced a new approach to optimise the deployment of electric and diesel locomotives.

The process involves the implementation of software, which uses a mathematical model to identify the minimum number of locomotives required to run all scheduled passenger trains, efficiently fulfilling maintenance and operations requirements.
