UK-based rail franchise Great Western Railway (GWR) has selected Nominet’s cyber security threat mitigation services to protect its network.

Nominet’s purpose-built DNS analytics turing platform is capable of monitoring up to one million security and network events per second.

Nominet DNS cyber consultants working with GWR’s teams will consistently review the network and existing internet traffic patterns to identify vulnerable areas and provide new recommendations.

The service is based on expert analysis of DNS-based data traffic from the output of turing feeds and Nominet’s experience in managing all UK internet traffic.

It delivers data intelligence reports that include internet traffic visualisations and overall health read outs, security events analysis, identifies infected internet protocols (IP) and compromised domains, alerts on unusual traffic volume, and indicators of probable cyber attacks.

GWR manages 208 stations and serves more than 270 destinations west of London.

The company is currently conducting a major fleet upgrade that also involves the modernisation of its business’ IT strategy.
