The Indian state of Gujarat has allocated Rs15bn ($205m) for the development of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train.

Gujarat finance minister Nitinbhai Patel announced the allocation while presenting the annual budget of the state.

Indian Railway Minister Piyush Goyal recently said that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train may not be completed by 2023 due to a land acquisition delay in Maharashtra, www.timesnownews.com reported.

Following this, a new completion schedule for the project will be made.

The Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train corridor will cover a length of 508.17km and comprise 12 stations in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The high-speed rail will cover 155.76km in Maharashtra, 4.3km in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and 348.04km in Gujarat.

Some of the stations of this rail line include Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.

While all stops service will take about two hours and 57 minutes, a limited-stop service will cover the distance in one hour and 58 minutes.

The high-speed rail will mostly run at an elevated track on a viaduct except in Mumbai, where it will be underground for 26km.

Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex station will be underground whereas all the other stations will be elevated.

This rail service is expected to operate at a speed of 320km/h.

In January, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation awarded a contract for Procurement and Fabrication of 28 steel bridges for crossing over railway lines, rivers, highways, road and other structures (P-4 Package) to Larson & Toubro–IHI Infrastructure Systems (Consortium) for the Mumbai Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor.
