The E-Netz Allgau network will provide regional services and connect Munich and Lindau, running across the German federal states of Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg.

Around 2.5m kilometres of the E-Netz Allgau route, which is currently operated by Deutsche Bahn, will be served by electric trains.

“Our growing local team continues to look for opportunities in the region as part of our strategy to build a long-term German transport business.”

Go-Ahead chief executive David Brown said: “Our growing local team continues to look for opportunities in the region as part of our strategy to build a long-term German transport business.

“This network complements our existing contracts in the region and builds on our desire to provide end to end journeys, including through our stake in German electric car sharing business, Mobileeee.”

In June last year, Go-Ahead secured its third contract from the Baden-Württemberg public transport authority and the Bavarian rail authority to operate the Network 3A ‘Murrbahn’ rail network in Germany.

The 13-year franchise is to begin in December next year.

The Murrbahn network offers commuter services between Stuttgart and Nuremberg, within the German federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.

Nearly 1.3m kilometres of the network are expected to deploy Stadler Flirt3XL trains.

Go-Ahead provides services in the bus and rail sectors and its customers include the Department for Transport, Transport for London (TfL) and local authorities.
