GE Transportation has joined the Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA), a trade association for blockchain education and standards development in the transport and logistics industry.

Founded in 2017, BiTA includes more than 230 companies with collective revenues of more than $1 trillion.

GE Transportation chief information officer Monica Caldas said: “We understand the importance of using data and analytics to drive outcomes for our customers.

“As a company, we’ve defined what it means to be a digital industrial leader, employing these technologies first internally to drive productivity and then applying those learnings for our customers’ benefit as well.”

The company has introduced multiple data-driven insights to enhance efficiency and visibility throughout intermodal supply chains.

“We look forward to bringing our applications to BiTA as we collectively seek to leverage the potential of blockchain across the industries we serve.”

Its RailConnect product suite is used by American shortline railroads as their operational system, and is used to automate and manage regular operations offering visibility to railroad assets and revenue protection for each traffic cycle.

Last month, GE Transportation signed a $1bn framework agreement to modernise Ukraine’s transportation infrastructure and strengthen its position as an important European rail hub.

The agreement includes the supply of 30 GE Evolution Series freight locomotives to Ukrainian Railways and locomotive kits over a ten year period.

It also includes overhauling Ukraine’s locomotive fleet and offer long-term maintenance services.
