East West Railway Company has proposed five route options for a rail line between Bedford and Cambridge in the UK.

The company has commenced public consultation for all five route options. The process will run for six weeks and will end on 11 March.

Among the options, three propose a southern route through South Cambridgeshire and Bassingbourn, while two offer a northern route via Cambourne.

The consultation also includes options for potential stations in Cambourne, St Neots, Sandy, Tempsford and Bassingbourn.

The Bedford-Cambridge line will create a direct connection between the two regions, reducing journey time for the commuters.

“We’re hoping that residents will give feedback on these route options to help us understand more about the priorities of the people this line will serve.”

The Bedford-Cambridge line, which will complete the East West Rail link between Oxford and Cambridge, is expected to be built by mid-2020.

Formed by the Secretary of State for Transport in 2017, the East West Railway Company is responsible for the development of the direct rail connection from Oxford to Cambridge.

The line will pass from Oxford through Bicester, Milton Keynes and Bedford to Cambridge and beyond.

The Oxford and Bicester section was completed in 2016, followed by completion of the enabling work for the Bicester- Bedford section.
