A joint venture led by Fluor and comprising Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Herzog Contracting Group and the Middlesex has been awarded a $2bn design-build contract by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) for the Green Line Light Rail Extension project in Boston, US.
The JV will undertake construction of seven stations under the initiative, including relocated Lechmere station, as well as a new vehicle storage and maintenance facility.

The arrangement also includes the construction of a mainline branch of MBTA’s Lowell Line from the relocated Lechmere Station in Cambridge to Medford, in addition to a branch line for the MBTA Fitchburg Line to Union Square in Somerville.
Services are expected to commence on the Green Line extension in 2021 and ridership is forecast to reach 45,000 a day by 2030.

Construction on the 119mi California high-speed rail project is currently underway, with initial passenger services planned to operate between Silicon Valley and Central Valley.
DB Engineering & Consulting will assist in the planning, design and implementation of the project and serve as the lead operator, while its partner Deutsche Bahn will act as guarantor for the development.
The performance-based contract is not expected to exceed $30m in value during the first phase.
