DB awarded awarded Rail. One the contract to build the new plant in October 2017.

The plant is spread over an area of 16,000m². It will use an automated carousel system with end anchoring technology to produce 180,000 linear metres of sleepers every year.

Rail. One CTO Ludwig Friedl said: “We are proud to be able to supply our most important customer Deutsche Bahn with even higher quality products from the most modern production plant in the entire Group.”

DB group Bavaria representative Klaus-Dieter Josel said: “One reason for choosing this location is the previous distribution of plants for the production of concrete turnout sleepers in Germany.

“This location is now the most southern and will primarily supply the regional divisions South and Southeast of DB Netz AG.”

The inaugural ceremony was attended by State Minister Albert Füracker, District Administrator Thomas Ebeling and Lord Mayor Andreas Feller.

Before starting production in November, the group will undertake a trial run of the plant to receive the permission from the Federal Railway Authority and the DB AG Quality Inspection Service.

Last month, DB started testing white-painted tracks to tackle the problem of overheating of rails during heatwaves.
