Amey Rail has taken over a significant number of key Network Rail contracts that were previously run by UK-based construction firm Carillion, which went into liquidation last month.

The transfer of these contracts to Amey is expected to ensure the continuity of the respective projects, in addition to saving more than 700 jobs.

Network Rail commercial director Matthew Steele said: “This is a positive step for the industry, ensuring the delivery of a number of major rail projects across the country whilst safeguarding an expected 700 jobs and the wider supply chain.

"We are excited to be taking on these rail contracts that form a key part of Network Rail’s vision for the country’s modernised rail network."

Amey Rail will be responsible for the IP Central Panel work for East Coast mainline and Midland Main Line, Crossrail’s Old Oak to Paddington section works, and Plain Line Track Renewals, as well as the North West Electrification Programme.

Network Rail noted that it will continue to work with the Official Receiver’s special manager, PwC, in order to finalise long-term transition arrangements for the remaining contracts.

The remaining contracts will continue to be delivered under Network Rail’s arrangement with PwC until the arrangements are finalised.
