Alstom’s first Citadis X05 Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) for the Sydney Light Rail project has entered its testing and commissioning phase.
The Sydney rail network is currently under construction and is expected to have a fleet of 60 X05 LRVs once operational.

Alstom’s new LRVs will initially be tested on a completed part of the line, located in Sydney’s eastern Suburbs.
The testing and commissioning of the entire train fleet is expected to continue into next year.
Alstom Australia and New Zealand managing director Mark Coxon said: “We are extremely proud to see the first official movements of the first Citadis X05 trams in Sydney.
“The Citadis X05 and associated technologies will transform Sydney and provide a step change in the city’s public transport capability and reliability, while preserving the aesthetic appeal of the city.”

By GlobalDataSydney’s 12km-long Central Business District and South East Light Rail project will comprise a total of 19 stops.
The LRVs will run in a 67m couple set and will be able to accommodate up to 450 people after the full network becomes operational.
The network will have the capacity to move up to 13,500 passengers per hour.
It is expected to reduce road congestion across Sydney, as well as offer a quick transportation alternative for commuters in the region.
Alstom’s Citadis X05 LRVs feature double-doors to facilitate easier passenger flows, in addition to large windows, multi-purpose areas and ambient LED lighting fixtures.
They are also equipped with CCTV capability, emergency intercoms and the latest technology to provide passenger information and real-time travel information for commuters.
Each vehicle will feature electrical braking systems and permanent magnet motors, as well as sensor-based air-conditioning to reduce environmental impact.
The LRVs will be up to 99% recyclable at the end of their 30-year lifespan and also use water-based paints and non-hazardous materials during the construction phase.
