Alstom has received a contract to modify the existing signalling system of five stations on the Belgrano Norte suburban line in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The stations involved are Ciudad Universitaria, Aristóbulo del Valle, Munro, Boulogne Sur Mer and Grand Bourg.

The upgrade is a part of the larger programme to renovate 22 stations on the line involving an investment of nearly €87m by Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura (Argentine Railways Infrastructure), under the National Transportation Ministry.

Under the €16m contract, Alstom will be responsible to deliver, install, test and commission relay interlocking, point machines, signals, track circuits, local and remote control posts, as well as power supply systems.

Alstom Argentina managing director Ernesto Garberoglio said: “This is the first tender awarded to Alstom that generated a direct contract with Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura.

One of the seven suburban train lines of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, the 54km-long Belgrano Norte line provides passenger service between the Retiro and Villa Rosa stations.

The line comprises 22 stations traversing through the City of Buenos Aires and Vicente López, San Isidro, General San Martín, Tigre, Malvinas Argentinas and Pilar.

Alstom recently secured two orders with a combined value of €116m to supply 25 Coradia Lint regional trains in southern Germany.

The company will supply 20 vehicles to DB Regio Bayern while additional five trains will be delivered to Hohenzollerische Landesbahn.

These trains will be manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Salzgitter, Germany.
