Alstom has secured a contract to upgrade the onboard train control systems of Swiss Federal Railways’ Astoro fleet.
The project, worth around €16m, involves upgrades to 19 Pendolino high-speed trains.

The scope of work includes the installation of ATLAS European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 baseline 3 on the trains. It is the latest application of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).
The vehicles, which were previously delivered by Alstom, will feature the national system as a specific transmission module piloted by ERTMS.
Following the upgrade works, the high-speed trains will run with the new ETCS baseline 3 system across Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy.
This signalling project has also been approved by the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA).

By GlobalDataAlstom’s signalling teams, which are based in the Italian cities of Bologna and Florence, will be in charge of the project.
The company’s Savigliano facility will also be responsible for the necessary adaptation of the trains, while the Neuhausen (Switzerland) facility will be associated with project supervision and customer management.
Alstom has received ERTMS technology contracts from 23 countries.
The company was also responsible for installing the new technology on the Italian high-speed rail line from Rome to Naples, the transnational high-speed line from Liège to Belgium to the German border, as well as on the Mattstetten-Rothrist line in Switzerland.
Last month, the company won a contract to provide signalling system for the new San Martín Viaduct in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires.
