Alstom said that the exterior of the train emulates the city’s energy- the city that never sleeps while the colours of interior, beige and artic green, are dedicated to the people of Mumbai.

The 177.2m trainset can accommodate 3,000 passengers in one trip and is installed with a regenerative braking system to reduce carbon emissions.

Additionally, the trains will be built with advanced air suspension for comfortable journeys and CCTV surveillance, as well as fire and smoke detectors to ensure passenger safety.

Sphor added: “Alstom is committed to support MMRC in easing the transportation challenges of Mumbai. With the project stipulating more than 80% localised manufacturing, this contract further reinforces Alstom’s commitment to invest, grow and Make in India.”

The under-construction Mumbai Metro Line 3 is 33.5km-long underground corridor that connects Colaba, Bandra and SEEPZ.

Once complete, the line will feature 27 stations, of which 26 will be underground. It is expected to become operational in 2021.
