Alstom has secured a €280m contract from Société du Grand Paris to build and supply a total of 150 cars for the 15, 16 and 17 lines of the Grand Paris Express.
The order will feature 25 trains with six cars each and is a result of an agreement reached between Société du Grand Paris and Île-de-France Mobilités after launching a bid for the trains in 2014.

Funded by Île-de-France Mobilités, the contract has a total value of up to €1.3bn for the development and supply of around 1,000 cars.
In July, Île-de-France Mobilités board of directors approved the first tranche of €680m to purchase the first 53 trains of the Grand Paris Express.
Île-de-France Mobilités and Île-de-France Region president Valérie Pécresse said: “With air-conditioning, video protection, USB plugs and efficient tools for providing on-board information, the new trains for Île-de-France Mobilités will provide users of Île de France’s new metro lines with high levels of comfort and safety, something I insist on for all orders of new material, metros as well as trains, RERs, buses and trams.

As part of the latest order, Alstom will develop the new trains on the basis of its Metropolis range.
Each train will be designed to carry up to 500 passengers in its three-car version, and up to 1,000 passengers in the six-car type.
The trains will feature on-board diagnostic systems to provide information on the condition of the equipment.
Deliveries of the first trains are expected to begin by 2022, with initial entry to commercial service planned for 2024.
Alstom plans to use six of its sites in France to design and manufacture the trains, which will be equipped with various innovative solutions to improve their environmental performance.
