Rail Infrastructure Construction
Larsen and Toubro (L&T) is an $8.5bn engineering, technology, construction and manufacturing company, with global operations. Its large technology base and pool of experienced personnel enable it to be a system integrator in rail infrastructure and rail transit systems, delivering multi-disciplinary rail projects from concept to commissioning.
L&T offers a range of multi-disciplinary services, including construction of railway sidings and yards, bridges (steel and concrete), tunnels, rail-based urban transit systems (metro systems), stations (including underground stations), railway electrification, signal and telecommunication systems, integrated / composite railway projects, railway track-laying, industrial infrastructure for manufacturing critical railway assets, and closed-loop rail transportation systems (merry-go-round systems) for comprehensive and cost-effective bulk material movement.
L&T provides design and engineering services in all fields (civil, bridges, ballast and ballastless track, electrical, S&T, etc) of railway infrastructure, rolling stock, locomotives, intercity coaches, wagons, etc. L&T also caters for the operation and maintenance of railway assets.
Our Indian rail bridges include Yamuna Bridge, Halladi Bridge and Panval Nadi Viaduct (the Konkan Railway). Other bridges include Gambhir Khad and Jhajjar Khad bridges. Jhajjar Bridge has a maximum pier height of 85m and the longest bridge span (154m) on the Jammu-Udhampur rail link of the Northern Railway.
L&T has contributed significantly to the successful implementation of Phase I of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Project. As a consortium partner, L&T constructed an underground corridor from Kashmere Gate to Central Secretariat, Mandi House underground station, and the ramp on the extension of the Barakhamba Road-Dwarka metro corridor towards Pragati Maidan.
L&T constructed the largest Delhi Metro underground station at Rajiv Chowk. In addition, the company executed a platform tunnel for the deepest station at Chawri Bazaar. L&T is also constructing underground stations at Udyog Bhavan, Saket and Green Park in Phase II of the Delhi Metro.
L&T’s track record encompasses over 6,000km of electrification, and it has competence in design, engineering, installation, testing and commissioning of DC and AC traction systems. Key sections electrified include the Jhansi-Bina Section of North Central Railway, the Kota-Nagda Section of West Central Railway, and the Egmore-Tambaram Metro Line in Chennai. L&T has also commissioned many track sub-stations and switching stations.
L&T has the experience and expertise to handle major turnkey projects for signalling and telecommunication including design, installation, testing and commissioning of relay interlocking and electronic interlocking of stations, train detection systems, interlocking of level crossings, OFC-based telecom systems, etc.
