RB Rail has awarded Bentley Systems International a contract to deploy and maintain cloud-based Common Data Environment (CDE) for the Rail Baltica line.

The CDE will be used during the Rail Baltica Global project’s design, construction and operational phases and will permit the use of a building information management (BIM) system.

The contract, which is valued at €1.224m, is valid for five years. The scope of the deal includes software development, implementation and maintenance, along with licensing and user training.

Bentley will be responsible for the supply of licensing, support and maintenance.

Rail Baltica estimates that around 370 users will access the system each day during peak production. Users will be involved in exchanging and updating documents for the project, which includes design models and drawings.

RB Rail CEO Timo Riihimäki said: “Digital Rail Baltica is as important as its physical infrastructure. Using BIM in a complex rail project as Rail Baltica will help ensure effective collaboration between people, processes and technology, helping to minimise rework, delays and unexpected costs.

“During the operational phase of Rail Baltica, BIM will provide all necessary information to the maintenance companies and infrastructure manager to ensure uninterrupted, safe and cost-effective operations of Rail Baltica.”

Five companies participated in the bid for the tender, with Bentley submitting the most economical proposal.

Earlier this month, the Rail Baltica joint venture (JV) RB Rail AS has issued a tender for the provision of Notified Body (NoBo) services.

In July, RB Rail invited applications for design and design supervision services for the mainline North and South sections in Latvia.
