CETEST is qualified to carry out a range of suspension stationary tests such as wheel unloading, roll coefficient and X-factor tests according to international standards, including EN 14363, UIC 528 and US CFR 49.

Stationary tests are required to evaluate the safety against derailment on rolling stock.

Having completed numerous projects worldwide, we have accumulated a good deal of experience in this area. We provide fully autonomous sets of portable rigs ready to be shipped to customer’s facilities and perform the following tests with reduced lead times and avoiding costs for vehicle shipment. You do not need to move your vehicle, we bring our equipment to you, anywhere, anytime.

These test benches have been specially designed for the proper execution of the following tests:

  • Wheel unloading
  • Wheel equalisation test
  • Roll Coefficient (also known as lean testing, sway or souplesse test)
  • Bogie rotational resistance and X-factor determination
  • Gauge verification
  • Carbody torsional stiffness
  • Centre of gravity verification (three-axis)
  • Vehicle weighting
  • Measurement of the guiding forces at a flat 150m radius curve

The rigs can be adapted to any wheelbase and track gauge and then positioned according to the required configuration.

On-track running dynamics

CETEST has completed multiple dynamic performance tests according to EN 14363, EN 12299, UIC 518 and US CFR49 all over the world. The aim of running behaviour tests is to assess the running characteristics of railway vehicles.

The assessment involves the statistical processing of several ride dynamic related parameters, which are obtained from signals recorded during test runs.

The following evaluation tests are performed in accordance with the above standards:

  • Running safety
  • Track loading
  • Ride characteristics

CETEST performs both a simplified and normal method as described on standard EN 14363, thanks to our proprietary solution of instrumented wheelsets. We have completed a lot of different test campaigns across the globe and on many different types of vehicles.

CETEST also has experience in managing complete test campaigns, including the organisation of the test runs and dealing with the train operator and the infrastructure manager.

Our instrumentation includes accelerometers, displacement sensors, strain gauges, gyroscopes and other special sensing systems such as instrumented wheelsets. We use them in conjunction with the latest control and acquisition equipment and post-processing tools.

Human exposure to vibration test

Evaluation of human exposure to vibrations according to standard EN 12299, ISO 2631, ISO 5349, etc.

CETEST assesses vehicle motion by measuring accelerations in the range that affects human perception of comfort, safety or health.

  • Comfort index evaluation
  • Evaluation of human exposure to vibration in the workplace (feet, hand and seat transmission) concerning safety or health requirements.

Vehicle performance depends on the running conditions: speed, load, track maintenance state, track layout, and others.

Weighting

Weight measurement with a hand-portable system able to measure the vertical force load from each wheel of a railway vehicle on the rail according to standard:

  • Measurement of the vehicle weight
  • Force distribution acknowledge
  • Track gauge independent system
