Construction and development company Skanska has entered into a deal with Swedish transport administration Trafikverket to expand the Mälarbanan railway line between Spånga and Barkarby in north of Stockholm.
Under the Skr400m ($48m) turnkey contract, Skanska will expand the Mälarbanan line from two to four tracks on a 3km section and a new platform.

Preliminary work for construction is planned in this year, and is expected to be complete by 2019.
Following the expansion, commuter trains will have two different tracks, and the other trains will be able to pass freely on the two outer tracks.

Since 2012, the company has been executing various works for the Mälarbanan project, including two bridges and an underground excavation.
With around 10,000 employees, Skanska is involved in various building and civil engineering operations, as well as residential and commercial development.
Last month, construction and civil engineering company Peab had been chosen to build the railway line between Barkarby and Kallhäll in the Mälarbanan project.
The contract was the first stage of the expansion between Tomteboda and Kallhäll in north-western Stockholm.
Work for the project would be done in collaboration with Trafikverket and project engineer Vectura.
