Rail

Global technology group Siemens has launched new automation controlling devices, Siplus, for various rail applications such as heating, ventilation and climate control (HVC) and signalling or sanding systems, as well as door drive and lighting systems.

Developed on the basis of new generation of Simatic S7 controllers, the new line includes Siplus extreme Rail S7-1500 and S7-1200 advanced, basic and distributed controllers with ET 200SP, as well as the Siplus HMI KP300 basic rail panel for operator control and monitoring.

Specifically designed for extreme conditions faced by rail applications, the rail-tested Siplus devices have received comprehensive certifications and other necessary rail approvals.

Siemens noted that Siplus extreme rail devices are designed and tested to cope with extreme environmental conditions including humidity, corrosive gases, salt spray, dust and electromagnetic interference.

The new device can be used on board the train or track for performing various automation works covering all rail applications.

The network Siplus extreme rail devices succeeded the current Siplus S7-200 and -300 technology.

In order to configure and commission the new Siplus extreme rail devices, the user can use the totally integrated automation (TIA) portal engineering framework.

The portal provides data storage facilities, practical library concepts and standardised operating functions.

The coordinated system that includes new Siplus extreme rail equipment and Profinet-based communication and engineering in the TIA Portal, the user will be able to create automation solutions for rail applications.

In March this year, Siemens stated that over the next six years it would equip Denmark capital Copenhagen’s entire commuter rail network with the Trainguard MT train control system, which uses communications-based train control (CBTC) to automate operation.
