UK's Network Rail has announced that development work is set to commence at Tottenham Hale station later this month.

The company will also close a level crossing near Northumberland Park station and replace it with a footbridge.

The works are part of an initiative to add a third track between Stratford and Angel Road. Tottenham Hale station is expected to cause disruptions in regular train operations, Network Rail stated.

Construction of the footbridge is expected to be completed by next year.

Network Rail route managing director Richard Schofield said: “I realise that the level crossing provides an important route for businesses and homes and understand the impact on the local community during the construction phase.

"We are working with the local authority to determine the best diversionary route for traffic and to identify alternative ways for pedestrians to cross the railway."

“We are working with the local authority to determine the best diversionary route for traffic and to identify alternative ways for pedestrians to cross the railway until the new bridge is in place.”

The works will necessitate the closing of the level crossing as the third track will increase train services.

Network Rail also informed that normal train services in Manchester have resumed after the completion of 19 days' work on the Ordsall Chord.

The project saw the replacement of a middle section of Chapel Street bridge, as well as realignment of the track and wiring installation to facilitate the use of electric trains.
