Delhi Sighning of MoU

Indian Railways is taking steps to provide passenger-friendly services through revamped coaches, and new ticket booking mobile app.

Trains will be refurbished to have coaches with newly designed seats, and environment friendly and clean toilets, while optimising the space within, reported the Indian Express.

The coaches will be fitted with energy saving LED lights, while the exteriors of the trains will have vibrant colours.

A session is being planned with designers and coach manufacturers from nine countries, including China, Japan, Spain, Italy, Australia, Germany and England, to discuss the proposed changes, the Indian Express wrote.

The organisation is also launching a new mobile app tomorrow to allow the passengers to book their tickets and avoid long queues at booking counters.

Being introduced under the recently announced ‘Digital India’ programme, the unreserved ticketing system app will initially be available in Mumbai.

Separately, the Delhi Metro is equipping its stations, depots and residential complexes with LED lighting, to save up to 40% energy.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with Energy Efficiency Services for the supply of these lights.

Another MoU has been signed with the US Green Building Council and the Green Business Certification. Under the MoU, the partners will develop norms for the green building certification of metro stations and depots in India, and worldwide.

Delhi Metro Rail said in a statement: "These initiatives are a part of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC’s) pioneering efforts towards the development of eco-friendly infrastructure across the globe.

"Delhi Metro is already developing all its stations under Phase 3 as green buildings. The parking areas for Phase 3 will also have LED lights."
