Emergency Hammer Boxe

Pickersgill-Kaye developed an emergency hammer box, which was fitted throughout the new Virgin Cross Country trains built by Bombardier Transportation. We have also supplied products for the Siemens (UK) Desiro fleets and on Brussels Metro projects.

The hammer is located in a powder coated aluminium dish, and protected from improper use by an emergency break-glass panel.

The break-glass panel is made from Perspex, and designed with safety in mind. When an attempt is made to break it, a tab will shear and by the use of a spring the glass is thrown clear.

This patented system is widely used on our emergency egress devices for example the MK3 HST central door locking system.

An indication of whether the box has been tampered with is provided by a red circle visible when the glass is in place but absent otherwise.
