Scotland’s national rail operator ScotRail is to introduce Rambus’ mobile ticketing solution as part of a pilot scheme to support hassle-free travel.
ScotRail customers will be able to use the all-in-one solution, HCE Ticket Wallet Service, to buy and download tickets with their smartphone.
Fully integrated with ScotRail’s current ticketing app, the solution is expected to allow customers to avoid queues at ticket vending machines.
ScotRail commercial director Lesley Kane said: “This pilot app delivers the convenient, easy access to tickets and travel that we know our customers want.
“Over the coming months, customers will be able to buy and download digital tickets from a single app, anytime, anywhere.”
The HCE Ticket Wallet Service features a technology used in the payments industry that creates a virtual smartcard that securely stores tickets on mobile devices.
