Dutch rail technology company Strukton Rail has secured two new maintenance contracts in Stockholm from Swedish Transport Administration Trafikverket.

The first involves a newly built 6km Stockholm Citybanan commuter line, while the second is for the railway running through central Stockholm.

Strukton’s work will include preventive and corrective maintenance of tracks, electrical systems, and signalling technology, as well as round-the-clock fault clearing services.

It will carry out maintenance activities according to Trafikverket’s standards when train services have stopped for the night. Its engineers will also detect and repair issues to prevent failures causing traffic.

The Citybanan line will run through tunnels under Stockholm’s city centre will allow long-distance and commuter trains to take different routes through the city. It is scheduled to be opened for passengers next year.

Its 11.4km double track line between Stockholm South and Tomteboda includes two new commuter stations Stockholm Odenplan and Stockholm City.

It is reported that the southern entrance to Stockholm central station is a rail bottleneck due to its narrow passage and dense traffic, which also complicates maintenance.

According to Trafikverket, the issue will be solved once the Citybanan is opened for passengers next year.

Strukton’s new contact will be in effect from May next year. After a 5-year period, it can be extended by one year.
