RailComm has delivered its Yard Automation System to Amtrak’s Chicago Union Station, which will increase yard safety and improve yard dwell times and throughput.

The company has delivered the system through a contract with HNTB and Kiewit-Western.

The automation system is controlled by RailComm’s DOC (Domain Operations Controller) server-based central control platform, giving the operator control of over 100 GETS Hydra-Switches and dozens of power derail devices, blue flag indicators, switch heater locations and two diesel generators.

The company uses RADiANT data radios to provide communication between the office system and the network of controlled devices.

The system will be operated from two locations.
