British train operating company Southern has introduced a new mobile application designed to provide rail passengers with personalised real-time information and super-fast journey planning for all national rail routes.

The Southern On Track App is available for free, and has been built by the company’s parent company, the Go-Ahead Group, in partnership with passengers. The app has been developed by London mobile specialist, The App Business.

Passengers can use the application to perform activities that range from planning journeys using GPS, identifying nearest stations, purchasing train and car park tickets, through to real-time train-running information.

"Our customers wanted something simpler, faster and better."

Using the app on both IOS and Android platforms, passengers can contact Southern customer services through one-touch email or phone to claim compensation in case a journey is delayed.

Southern commercial director Alex Foulds said: "We wanted to create a smart, fast, ‘assistant’ at your fingertips, something that is tailored to suit regular commuters or occasional travellers. Our customers wanted something simpler, faster and better. With ours, personalised real-time information is instantly available."

The App Business founder and strategy director Daniel Joseph said: "The opportunity for us was to make an App that rail passengers could personalise to meet their specific transport needs faster and more intuitively.
