Wabtec subsidiary Faiveley Transport has secured an approximately $100m contract to supply systems for the first 71 next-generation double-decker trainsets for lines D and E of the Paris rail network in France. 

The contract was awarded by Alstom and Bombardier Transportation and will require Faiveley to supply complete braking solutions for the locomotives, including air generation systems, brake controls and bogie brakes. 

Faiveley will also provide doors and HVAC systems such as cabin and saloon heating, ventilation and air-conditioning units as part of the deal.

Additionally, company is set to deliver the trains' pantographs and tachometer systems.

The project will involve several Faiveley operating units situated in France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

Deliveries are expected to start by September next year and be completed by 2022.

French national railway company SNCF previously ordered 71 trains from a consortium of Alstom and Bombardier earlier this year, as a part of a framework contract for the delivery of up to 255 trains.

The new fleet will comprise 56 six-car and 15 seven-car sets that can carry up to 1,860 passengers.
