Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has awarded a contract worth $126.9m to L&T-Instalaciones Inabensa consortium for the design and construction of the 1,856km Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).

Following the contract, L&T construction division will deal with the electrification work required on the 417km segment of the corridor from Mughalsarai to New Bhaupur.

As the segment demands for 25kV traction power systems and OHE for freight transport, work includes seven Traction substations, 881 track kilometres of overhead equipment, 18 switching stations, electrical and mechanical works, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and the delivery of all related equipment.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is an Indian multi-national conglomerate, whereas Instalaciones Inabensa is a Spanish engineering subsidiary of energy conglomerate Abengoa.

European Locomotive Leasing (ELL) has signed another framework agreement with Siemens for up to 50 Vectron locomotives.

The current agreement follows a previous order placed by Siemens with ELL, which has been successfully completed.

Scomi Engineering has won a contract worth $121.5m from The São Paulo Metropolitan Company for further work on the 8.8km Line 17 of the Gold São Paulo monorail project in Brazil.

Scomi will be responsible for providing full rolling stocks, a signalling system, an operations control centre system, track switches, power rails, and power supply, as well as distribution systems, fibre-optics, and cable trays.
