The Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) of Hanoi has awarded a €265m ($279.5m) contract to a French consortium comprising Alstom, Thales and Colas Rail.

Under the contract, the consortium will deliver a complete telecommunications system for Hanoi metro’s Line 3 project, which is under construction in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The contractual scope includes supply of entire range of train-to-track communication systems, a line command and control centre for traffic management, energy distribution, video surveillance, passenger data, and telephone services.

Brussels-based STIB has appointed a consortium of Systra, Geste and Tractebel to provide consultancy services for Brussels Metros’ modernisation programme in Belgium.

The six-year contract includes provision of detailed design, supervision and testing services for the new rolling stock and the signalling system. A new depot is also being planned at the Erasme station on Line-5.

The modernisation project will see the revamp of two metro lines, Line 1 and Line 5, as well as increase the frequency of trains on these lines and boost the metro’s capacity.

Siemens has received an order from DB Regio to supply 39 train sets, including 15 Desiro HC and 24 Mireo trains, to be operated on Germany’s Rhine Valley rail network, beginning 2020.

The contract marks the first order for the company’s newly launched articulated Mireo regional train platform, which is a lightweight, three-car train with 220 seats. The platform features an intelligent board network management system that reduces energy consumption by 25%.

The Desiro HC model is a 105m-long four-car train that features two single-deck cars, two double-deckers and 410 seats with spacious legroom.

Knorr-Bremse will supply complete braking systems for 800 Prima twin-section WAG12 electric locomotives to be delivered to Indian Railways from 2018 to 2028.

The contractual scope includes supply of brake control unit, air-treatment and bogie equipment, all modified for local conditions of the country.

The contractor will manufacture braking systems at its production site in Palwal, India. The first delivery will be made this year, while the remaining deliveries will be completed over 11 years.

Lund municipality in Sweden has awarded a Skr710m ($80m) contract to Skanska for construction of a new tramway between Lund Central Station and the European Spallation Source (ESS).

Starting next month, the contract will include development of 5.5km of double-track with nine stops, a new bridge and traffic devices, and installation of track, electrical, signal and telecom in the urban environment.

The tramway is expected to be operational by the end of 2018.
