Rail Signalling Services

Bombardier Transportation has bought a 100% stake in the Australian signalling firm Rail Signalling Services (RSS), in a move to extend its presence in the continent.

RSS is an integrated signalling engineering and services supplier and is involved in the design, delivery and installation of station interlocking and level crossing systems for mainline and mass transit operations.

The transaction will enable Bombardier to expand its signalling activities in a market where large investments are planned.

Bombardier Transportation Rail Control Solutions Division president Peter Cedervall said: "Combining the world-class skills of both companies will drive further growth of our signalling activities in Australia, which is a home market for Bombardier."

Bombardier’s Rail Control Solutions portfolio includes the complete line of Bombardier Cityflo mass transit solutions ranging from manual to fully automatic, as well as communications-based systems.

It also provides Bombardier Interflo mainline solutions, from conventional to ERTMS Level 2 systems and beyond.

In addition, RSS’s management team will be retained in order to ensure continued success as part of Bombardier’s global Rail Control Solutions Business.

RSS directors Stewart Bracken and Martin Scanlon said: "Bringing together Bombardier’s global and RSS’s local expertise will provide the Australian market with advanced, innovative and cost effective rail signalling solutions for all levels of complexity."
