Genesee & Wyoming (G&W) subsidiary the Bay Line Railroad in the US has signed an agreement to operate a Choice Terminal bulk transload facility at the Panama City Port Authority’s Intermodal Distribution Center (IDC).

G&W acquired the Bay Line in 2005, and operates Choice Terminals to provide delivery, storage, inventory management and transloading of bulk products to its customers.

Expected to begin operations next month, the Bay Line Choice Terminal will feature a 20-car rail yard, and a five-acre staging area, as well as equipment that is needed to support bulk transfers.

Bay Line president Bill Jasper said: “This rail-and-truck logistics solution allows the Port Authority and local customers to keep inventory closer to their markets and take advantage of the superior economics offered by freight-rail service.

“The new terminal will receive bulk rail shipments, transfer the product to intermodal boxes and have the boxes trucked to the port for international movement.

"The terminal can transfer imported goods from the port into bulk railcars for shipment to rail-served sites."

“The terminal can also transfer imported goods from the port into bulk railcars for shipment to rail-served sites.”
